In vitro fertilization(IVF) is the latest way to propagate the experimental and commercial animals. The first ever media was designed by Quinn et al in 1985 and reported to have successfully fertilized mouse spermatozoa in human tubal fluid(HTF) medium. HTF Media are specifically designed and formulated for use in reproductive procedures such as gamete and embryo handling. This media is a synthetic medium and can be used to retrieve, handle, transfer of human gametes and embryos. This media is best suited for through Day 3 of the human embryo as well as for processing of the gametes. The media is formulated with bicarbonate and intended for use in a CO2 incubator. The HEPES-containing HTF media are designed for retrieving or washing gametes and embryos outside the CO2 incubators.
