Versene (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or EDTA) is a chelating agent that binds divalent cations such as calcium and magnesium. Chelation of these cations leads Versene can be used as a wash prior to addition of trypsin faster than trypsin or versene alone because versene allows trypsin to hydrolyze specific intercellular peptide bonds and destabilize the intercellular matrix. Versene (EDTA) solution is sterile filtered solution formulated to contain 0.1% EDTA in Dulbecco`s phosphate buffered saline.
